Martignani and the treatments in the Walnuts

We are in Veneto. Probably one of the most romantic and enchanting regions in Italy. With a great diversity of landscapes and cultural secrets all to discover: from the hills to the sea or the mountains, from tradition to modernity. From art to gastronomy or tourism. All the charm of Venice meets the hilly belt, the heart of the Veneto region, characterized by stupendous historic villages, ancient villas and evidence of the preferences that the nobles of the past had for this area, which they chose as a vacation and relaxation destination.

Agriculture, in this Italian region as in most of our country, is crucial. Both viticulture and fruit growing are vitally important, and, as could not be otherwise, Martignani is also very much involved.

In this case, however, we are in Veneto to talk to one of our long-time customers, Mr. Rebuf, manager of the company Il Noceto in Noventa di Piave, in the province of Venice.

The Il Noceto farm has a large expanse of walnut trees, Lara variety, and is in the process of expansion. In fact, it has 75 hectares in production, with trees up to 11/12 meters tall, and 80 hectares planted between 2019 and 2020.

The planting spacing has different distances, from mt. 3.5 – 4 – 5 along the row and mt. 6.80 – 7 between rows.

For treatments carried out in these plantations, the company has always used Martignani sprayers, specifically an electrostatic sprayer Whirlwind M612 Turbo 2 with extendable tower for Walnut groves purchased more than 20 years ago, but which to this day continues to be used mainly “for the phytosanitary defense of walnut groves, specifically in the fight against fungal or insect infections,” Mr. Rebuf explains.

Given the company’s expansion prospects, just over a month ago, Il Noceto purchased a second machine: a Whirlwind M612 Turbo 2, 2000-liter with DEVICE 4.0.

These devices allow operators/producers absolute remote control of every treatment-related parameter through the Cloud platform that allows all data to be viewed on the move through smartphones, tablets or PCs:

Correct dose and treatment parameters
Fluid dynamic parameters
Mapping the treatment performed
Control and regulation of consumption
Adjustments according to weather changes.

Advantages of treatments with Martignani

Mr. Rebuf says that the main advantages of the treatments carried out with Martignani sprayers are “lower water consumption, about 6.50 hl per hectare, with greater diffusion of droplets in an extremely uniform way.”

In fact, the low volume and electrostatic charge of Martignani Technology are a guarantee of perfect, uniform and homogeneous dye coverage, with no drift loss or residue in the fruit.

Economic savings

On the other hand, one of the main strengths of Martignani Technology is the guaranteed cost savings (or return) that comes with the treatments. In fact, 20 years ago Eng. Claudio Martignani, founder of our company created the Martignani Theorem in which the various savings guaranteed after only a few years after the purchase of the machine are calculated.

This theorem is still valid today and shows how with Martignani it is possible to save, for example, at least €200 per hectare per year in viticulture. In this regard, Mr. Rebuf states. “the savings should be interpreted both in the speed of execution and therefore less use of labor, and in the security that the phytoiatric products are distributed extremely evenly.
