Electrostatic Sprayers in the Fight Against Aedes aegypti, the Vector of Dengue Fever

The excellence of Martignani’s “Super Ecology” electrostatic pneumatic sprayers has been confirmed in a recent high-level trial aimed at combating the“Aedes aegypti”mosquito—a vector of denguefever—using“Ultra-Low Volume”applications.

A recent report indicates that dengue is the fastest-spreading disease in the world transmitted by an insect vector; it is spread by the Aedes aegypti mosquito, the primary vector in many countries. World Health Day on April 7, 2014, with the theme “SMALL BITES, BIG THREATS,” serves as a reminder that vector-borne diseases affect billions of people worldwide, including millions across all 37 countries and areas of the Western Pacific Region, as stated by Dr. Shin Young-Soo, Director of the WHO (World Health Organization).

With this very goal in mind, in 2014 in Malaysia—on the initiative of the public Institute for Medical Research (IMR), in collaboration with a well-known multinational chemical company, six institutes specializing in various fields of expertise, and as many as 18 experts from the medical and scientific sectors— a top-level trial was conducted aimed at investigating the results currently achievable in the fight against DENGUE through the ULTRA-LOW-VOLUME application of a special medical device provided by the aforementioned multinational company, using three different delivery systems available on the Malaysian market: one Italian— the MARTIGNANI “Compact” 16 Hp Electrostatic Pneumatic Sprayer; one German: an aerosol dispenser; and one Korean: a thermal fogger ….…Fog.

In particular, the study investigated the degree of both adulticidal and larvicidal efficacy achievable with various product-machine combinations.
The 24-page technical report (in English) resulting from the trial—which took place from February 5 through May 22, 2014, on a 7-hectare residential area—summarized the following key findings:
