Cherries: €250,000 in annual savings on 90 hectares

Treatments performed with Martignani electrostatic sprayers result in significant savings in chemicals, water, and time.

Our data show that after just a few growing seasons of use, farmers can save up to:

  • 50% on plant protection products
  • 85% on water
  • 50% in time

Obviously, these figures do not come from us, but are the result of years and years of experience, testimonials from thousands of customers around the world, and numerous scientific studies and research projects that demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of Martignani sprayers in ensuring optimal treatment and proper environmental protection.

Martignani’s Cherry Production Figures

A recent study conducted by our collaborator in Chile, agricultural engineer Pablo Poirot, highlights the results achieved by a cherry grower over three years of treatments compared to his previous use of conventional sprayers.

Our client owns a 90-hectare cherry farm (main varieties: Santina, Lapins, and Kordia, all intended for export) in the Teno area south of the capital, Santiago (Chile). This grower harvests 100 metric tons of fruit per season—that is, 200,000 crates of export-grade cherries—with China as the primary market.

Currently, the company uses two Whirlwind M612 TURBO 2 1,500-liter electrostatic sprayers, equipped with dual fans and a turret, to carry out its treatments. Over the past three seasons, it has reduced both the operating costs of its applications and the product costs associated with its annual application program.

Let’s look at the numbers:

The grower in question uses two Martignani sprayers at 375 liters per hectare, compared to the 1,500 liters per hectare previously used with conventional turbo sprayers. This translates to a 75% savings in WATER.

In addition, over the past three seasons , the company has saved on equipment rentals, fuel, and labor costs, totaling USD 6,846 (€6,390.00) per machine per year.

In terms of water savings alone, the total amounted to 474,648 liters.

Comparison of Annual Expenditures on Crop Protection Products:

  • Conventional sprayer: USD 4,312 per hectare (approx. €4,027.00)
  • Martignani Electrostatic Sprayer: USD 1,324 per hectare (approx. €1,226.00)

Annual savings: USD 2,988 per hectare (approx. €2,801.00)

We should also note the significant time savings achieved with Martignani sprayers; in fact, a single operator can cover 54% more area per day.

Before purchasing the Martignani sprayers, the Chilean farm in question used three conventional sprayers to treat 60 hectares of cherries, whereas now, with two Martignani sprayers, it treats 90 hectares (the farm has expanded from 60 to 90 hectares over the past three years ).

This means that two Martignani sprayers have replaced four hypothetical sprayers and an equal number of tractors (in fact, if three sprayers were needed for 60 hectares, four sprayers would be required for the current 90 hectares).

Treatments performed with Martignani sprayers are sustainable, not only because of the significant savings in water and product, but also because they ensure that there is no soil contamination from runoff or drift. 70–80% of the product remains on the tree (compared to 30% with traditional systems).

This has always been one of our company’s main goals: finding the right balance between crop protection and environmental protection. That’s why we’ve brought to market an unparalleled, advanced technology — an electrostatic, low-volume system with micronization optimized to deliver the product to the target—capable of ensuring high-quality fruit and wine, free of residues, with the utmost respect for the environment.

Martignani, for a greener world.
