Our partners in Spain, Bisari Agroinnovation, recently participated in the “Test Farms” program, sponsored by the EIT (European Institute of Innovation & Technology) and TEPRO.
The program aims to connect new, technologically advanced companies with traditional farmers and producers to test and promote new solutions in the agricultural sector.
As for Bisari, as part of the program, it conducted a demonstration trial using Martignani Electrostatic Sprayers for assisted pollination of almond trees on a commercial scale.
The main objective of the trial was to increase and improve almond production, which has declined in recent years due to various factors, such as:
- A decline in natural bee populations and the availability of artificial hives.
- Adverse weather conditions during the flowering period: primarily low temperatures, wind, rain, and excessive humidity.
- Plantations located on steep slopes, which hinder pollinator activity.
During the trial, Martignani sprayers with electrostatic charge were used for assisted pollination as a supplement to natural pollination in order to:
- Ensure that the trees receive adequate nutrition so that pollination and fruit set occur under optimal conditions.
- Optimize the pollen collection process through a practical and efficient field-based system.
- Develop a matrix that ensures pollen stability and promotes germination and pollen tube growth.
- Determine the optimal pollen dose that maximizes the fruit set rate.
The test results were very satisfactory. Not only did production increase, but fruit quality improved as well.
Furthermore, thanks to Martignani technology, it is possible to save not only water and chemicals, but also time and labor.
